Book Recommendations — social distancing style
Because everyone is stuck inside trying not to die via coronavirus and trying not to accidentally murder old people, I thought I would do one of my favorite things which is recommending books to people who didn’t ask for recommendations. Seriously though, this is a great time to get some reading done and get on a nice GoodReads high for your quarantine.
Here are some books I have read lately that I love:
Untamed — Glennon Doyle
I am currently finishing this book and it is pretty damn incredible. I can’t really describe it and do it justice, but I think that every person should read. It’s about women doing whatever the fuck we want because we want to and how our society can treat people like they deserve to be treated and how we need to stop taming human beings. All that fun stuff!
From The Corner of the Oval — Beck Dorey-Stein
If there is any book about politics, I either have read it or am planning to read it. This book was wild. It was so well-written by one of President Obama’s stenographers about her experience in basically a real life West Wing. You have to read.
City of Girls — Elizabeth Gilbert
I read this book last year, but still think about it almost on a daily basis. I don’t read novels super often, but Elizabeth Gilbert DID THAT. This book tells the story of a teenage girl growing up surrounded by the New York theatre scene in the 40s. I was highkey reading this book in public and it should absolutely be a Broadway musical like yesterday.
Dare to Lead — Brene Brown
This book is really great if you are a leader of any group, but really, it should be required reading just for human beings. Brene Brown is my queen. I think I make up like the majority of her teenage fanbase. The book gives great tools on how to lead honestly in a brave way through every aspect of your life. We love that.
The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For — Charlotte Alter
This is one of my favorite books I think I have ever read. It’s really phenomenal. Basically, this book illustrates how the millennial generation has shaped American history and will continue to shape our political landscape when they rule the entire world. If you are into activism or youth organizing or politics or just the world, this is a must-read.
